It all started with home-brewing systems in garages. The tasty brews created had such positive reviews from friends and family that it was apparent that a business could be built around this afternoon hobby.
Established on September 9th, 2009, Horsefly Brewing Company is now Montrose's oldest brewery. Named after the Horsefly Peak, the company originated as a small tasting room located in the front office area of a storage unit rental space. Quickly Horsefly outgrew it's space and moved to its current location on Main Street in September of 2010. Over the years expansions including adding a full service kitchen, brew room, walk in coolers, and more seating areas have occurred to further please our customers.
Owners, Phil and Melanie Freismuth, have made Montrose their home since 1997. Their community focused mindset is part of what makes Horsefly so special. On top of Horsefly Brewing Company, the Freismuths' additionally own and operate Airfly and Airfly Too at the Montrose airport, and Phelanies, a speakeasy. Often you can find Phil and Melanie "testing the product" at one of their favorite spots in either Horsefly or Phelanies.
Across the street from Horsefly. A prohibition style speakeasy with handcrafted cocktails. The password is at the bottom of your Horsefly receipt, or ask any server.
